Cole Palmer contract: forward wants to repay Chelsea trust

by Alex Matthews

Cole Palmer says he wants to repay Chelsea’s trust after signing a new contract that commits his future to the club until at least 2034. The Cole Palmer contract was agreed on Saturday, before the forward started Chelsea’s 5-1 win over Bournemouth.

In an interview published by the club on Monday, Palmer thanked Chelsea for their backing and said his focus was on continuing to improve his performances.

Cole Palmer contract brings long-term commitment

“Just thank you to the club for trusting me and I’ve got to keep repaying them,” Palmer told Chelsea’s official website.

The deal was announced on the same day as Chelsea’s emphatic home victory. Palmer set up Jordan Henderson’s second-minute opener, with Morgan Rogers adding the next goal. Henderson and Joao Pedro both finished with two goals.

Palmer described the result as a good start to the next run of games, particularly with key players returning. His comments were an assessment of Saturday’s team rather than a promise that every injured player is now available.

Palmer feels back to his best

Beyond the Cole Palmer contract, the forward spoke positively about his own form as Chelsea continue adapting to Xabi Alonso’s ideas.

“I just work hard and try to give my best, that’s all. I feel back to how I was and it’s only early in the season, so just keep going.”

He said the manager was still getting his ideas across, but that the players were starting to adapt after working on them in training.

Training work pays off against Bournemouth

Away from the Cole Palmer contract news, Palmer also explained his part in Henderson’s free-kick goal. His run drew the foul, before he made a decoy run as Henderson curled the ball into the top corner.

According to Palmer, the pair had worked on the move in training and even discussed which corner flag they would run towards if Henderson scored.
