The club in brief

Businessman Gus Mears bought the Stamford Bridge athletics ground in 1904 and founded Chelsea in 1905 after Fulham turned down the chance to lease it. The club won its first league title in 1955 and its first Premier League title in 2004-05.
Chelsea are the only club to have won four main UEFA club competitions. Xabi Alonso became manager on 1 July 2026.
