Chelsea team news is positive ahead of Saturday: Moises Caicedo is ready for Chelsea’s return to Premier League action against Bournemouth, while Jamie Gittens will miss Saturday’s match with an ankle injury.
Xabi Alonso gave the updates in his Friday 9th October news conference. According to football.london’s live reporting from Cobham, the head coach also said Cole Palmer, Reece James, Joao Pedro and Marco Palestra had trained and were ready to go.
Chelsea team news: Caicedo ready
Alonso said Chelsea had used the international break to get Caicedo fit. “He’s ready to go,” he said, as reported by football.london’s Bobby Vincent.
The manager said Chelsea had missed the midfielder’s quality and energy. He explained that the club had not wanted to take risks with him for the previous game at Brentford, but that he now felt much better.
The update puts Caicedo back in contention. It does not confirm Saturday’s starting line-up.
Chelsea team news: Palmer training, but full fitness matters
Asked about Palmer, James and Joao Pedro, Alonso said they had been able to train, some more than others. He included Palestra in that group and said they had trained well and were ready to go.
On Palmer specifically, he said the attacker had trained over the past week and was feeling better. He added that Chelsea did not want to rush him, noting that he had struggled in the Brentford match.
Alonso’s emphasis was on Palmer being fully fit. The broad availability update should therefore not be treated as a promise that Palmer will start or play the full match.
Gittens ruled out for a few weeks
The Chelsea team news on Gittens was less positive. Alonso said the winger would not be fit for Bournemouth after injuring his ankle and would be out for a few weeks.
No exact return date was given in the reported comments. Chelsea’s subsequent updates will matter more than trying to turn that estimate into a fixed comeback fixture.
Alonso also said Estevao was feeling much better after his injury and would have opportunities for more minutes over time. He did not set a minutes target for Saturday.

Bournemouth next at Stamford Bridge
Chelsea host Bournemouth on Saturday 10th October. Alonso described Marco Rose’s side as an intense, high-tempo opponent and said Chelsea needed a good performance and a win.
